Rugby Illinois had its 7s Championship in St. Charles IL where the top clubs in Illinois battled for the top spot.
CHICAGO, Aug. 11, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Like many sports organizations Rugby Illinois took a hit from the previous few years but seeing the display of athleticism and competition over the past month and dedication from all of the Illinois clubs we are happy to announce that Youth 7s in Illinois is back and next year will be even bigger and better.
For the High School Girls the CRC Valkyries took the win coming in 1st with the South Suburban Cobras coming in second and Morton Mustangs grabbing 3rd.
The CRC Valkyries have dominated this year's 7s season, not losing one game this year. The team is roughly new; only being a second year 7s team.
From Head Coach of the CRC Valkyries Michael Olson; "The girls worked extremely hard to get here trying to perfect every bit about Rugby 7s. That final match was a true challenge because we played the Morton Mustangs more than three times this year, so all of the girls were pretty familiar with each other and we changed our approach on them. Rugby for our CRC Valkyries means sportsmanship, bonds that last, and bringing a strong and solid team of girls that receive opportunities as their rewards."
Valkyries Captain Lhea Assria; "When I shout 'Before Valhalla' and the girls scream back 'bring us victory!' It is not to be seen as just a team chant, but instead a wailing siren that is released on the field to show we are stepping into the match fearlessly. To my girls I leave behind temporarily, I hope I was a role model to you, a support system, and someone that helped you flourish within such a timeless sport. To the coaches that have mentored me, along with my teammates and continue to do so, you are seen, trusted, and placed on a pedestal even when you feel the opposite. I say this humbly and truthfully, becoming State Champions was not a shock to any one of us, but instead was the end goal. I watched my team courageously fight until the end and it was more than enough proof that we deserved to be placed on a map.
For the High School Boys the Naperville Warriors came out on top. The hard-fighting Arlington Stallions came in 2nd and Fox Valley Predators took 3rd.
