10,300 IT Jobs Added in March, Report Says
ATLANTA (PRWEB) April 30, 2018 -- The IT industry added 10,300 jobs in March according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, April 6, 2018.
“Employment growth in March was only slightly less than the 10,800 jobs added in February,” said Jay Rollins, owner of ITJobsWeb.com, a leading IT jobs website. “Unlike February, however, losses occurred in management and technical consulting.”
The multiple sectors that form the IT industry now employ 4,906,200 persons; this includes employment information from the data processing, hosting and related services subsector, the computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector, the computer systems design and related services industry group, and the management and technical consulting services industry group.
The data processing and hosting subsector added 2,900 jobs in March, after adding 4,000 jobs in February. Since March 2017, the subsector has added 14,500 jobs and now sits at 329,000 employed persons.
Similarly, the computer and electronic manufacturing subsector added 2,800 jobs. March’s gains mark an increase over the 1,100 jobs added in February. The subsector now sits at 1,060,200 employed persons, having added 22,000 jobs since March of last year.
The computer systems design industry group experienced the quickest growth of the month, adding 5,000 jobs compared to the 4,500 jobs added in February. The industry group now sits at 2,081,000 employed persons.
Management and technical consulting lost 400 jobs, a drop from the 1,200 jobs added in February. Over the last 12 months, the sector has added 53,700 jobs and now employs 1,436,000 persons.
Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment added 103,000 new jobs in March while the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1 percent for the sixth consecutive month. Employment gains mostly occurred in manufacturing, health care, and mining.
