11 Animal charities are surprised in a great Christmas charity giveaway
(PRWEB UK) 20 December 2013 -- Animal Friends Insurance, one of the UK’s largest pet insurers, has decided to celebrate the Christmas festivities by making a huge £70,000 donation to animal charities across the UK and internationally ensuring that the world’s less fortunate animals are not forgotten this Christmas. The concept of a charity Christmas giveaway was the brainwave of Managing Director of Animal Friends Insurance Elaine Fairfax.
Over recent months a number of charities have been under pressure to deal with a high volume of rescues including the RSPCA who are currently caring for 100 seal pups, including many orphans which were saved from the recent tidal surges on the Norfolk coast, and Horseworld who were recently involved with the rescue of 400 horses from one site. The donations will assist with not just the immediate care of many rescued animals but also the long term rehabilitation they require.
HorseWorld received a donation of £15,000 to construct an all-weather turnout facility. HorseWorld’s Director of Welfare said, “By providing an all-weather limited grazing turn-out facility Animal Friends has assisted HorseWorld enormously in easing these seriously affected animals back to a healthy, normal life. This generous grant will provide a significant and long term benefit to the charity. We offer grateful thanks from all our supporters and staff. Particularly special thanks too from all of the horses who will benefit from the donation.”
East Winch RSPCA received a donation of £20,000 to help nurse the 100 seal pups back to health. This donation will specifically provide equipment which will help prepare and feed the special diet they require.
Commenting on the donation centre manager, Alison Charles said, “This extraordinarily generous donation by Animal Friends will go a huge way to ensuring the seals get the care and rehabilitation they need. Not only has it helped enormously meet the immediate costs of feeding and looking after the seals, but acts of kindness like this really boost the morale of the dedicated RSPCA staff and volunteers here at East Winch Wildlife Centre.
"There is a long road ahead for the seals and lots of money still to raise. However, thanks to donations from people like Animal Friends, we are a lot nearer to reaching our ultimate goal of releasing these magnificent creatures back into the wild.”
Other projects Animal Friends have supported include £9,250 for a new wildlife ambulance for Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS), East Sussex and £4,500 for Devon based charity K9 Crusaders to help them replace a defective floor on their recently built kennels.
MD and Founder of Animal Friends Insurance Elaine Fairfax said: “It’s wonderful to be able to make such a big donation to so many very worth charities this Christmas; it’s like playing Santa Claus! But there is an important message here, as we all sit down and enjoy our lovely Christmas meals and presents the work of animal rescue goes on. So I hope our gesture helps people remember the many volunteers who will be out there this Christmas carrying on their vital and selfless work to help animals in distress.”
