12% of the American Population Suffers from Debilitating Headaches – The Will Erwin Headache Research Foundation Sets Out To Find a Cure

The Will Erwin Headache Research Foundation, recently launched by Houstonian Jimmy Erwin, is committed to supporting research. Mr. Erwin created The Will Erwin Headache Research Foundation in memory of his son Will with the goal of bringing relief to the millions of sufferers around the globe afflicted with debilitating headaches by funding research focused on finding a cure. To fulfill its mission, the Foundation has teamed up with two leading institutions, Memorial Hermann Health System and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School.

Today, a staggering 12 percent of the American population suffer from debilitating headaches, including migraines and cluster headaches. Yet, research for a cure is seriously underfunded. In 2014, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimated $45 million of annual funding support is dedicated to headache and migraine research – only .03 percent of the total $146 billion the organization allocates to medical research initiatives. The Will Erwin Headache Research Foundation seeks to dramatically increase funding for these neurological disorders through its global fundraising efforts.
