13th Annual Kite Flying Festival – Fly a Kite by the Fountain
Fountain Hills, AZ (PRWEB) January 23, 2015 -- Pakistan Information and Cultural Organization (PICO) will have its 13th Annual Kite Flying Festival (Basant Mela) on Saturday, March 07, 2015, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Fountain Park at 12925 N. Saguaro Blvd, Fountain Hills, Arizona. Admission to the event is free, and it's open to the public.
Basant is a seasonal festival celebrated at the end of winter to welcome spring. "Kite flying" is the major and most colorful event of this festival. The sky is covered with colorful kites that are of medium size, normally from 1 foot to 4 feet in diameter; kites are usually made of paper and made especially for this purpose. Kites are of different shapes and sizes and are tied with specially made thread called "Doore." Special arrangements have been made this year to get customized kites for the event from Pakistan.
"Yellow" is the color of the festival and is visible everywhere i.e. from kites to clothes. Basant is not only a kite flying event; it's a cultural festival for the entire family.
The PICO Basant Mela is an excellent opportunity to participate in Kite Flying, visit with vendors and try traditional Pakistani food, enjoy the music, kids and youth activities. Come and spend the day relaxing and enjoy the Pakistani culture.
