1623 Studios Awarded Prestigious Regional and National Awards
Cape Ann's Community Media Center Recognized for Creative Excellence with 9 Awards
GLOUCESTER, Mass., June 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- 1623 STUDIOS, Cape Ann's innovative community media center, is proud to announced that it has been honored with eight prestigious awards for excellence in production of original work from international industry leaders as well as a coveted regional award for their contribution to the preservation, protection, awareness, and documentation of Gloucester's long, rich history.
The nonprofit organization was awarded this month with four 2019 Telly Awards which recognizes the best work created within television and across video for all screens and four 2019 Communicator Awards, bestowed to communications professionals for creative excellence. The Gloucester Historical Commission also presented them with a 2019 Preservation Award for Education and Outreach.

During a recent ceremony celebrating National Historic Preservation Month, the Gloucester Historical Commission awarded the staff of 1623 Studios with the 2019 Preservation Award for Education and Outreach for the production of Timeline: Cape Ann The History of Good Harbor Beach. Produced with assistance from Cape Ann Museum and the Gloucester Historical Commission, it is the latest in an original 1623 Studios series where host Kory Curcuru reveals a minute-long backstory of local Gloucester figures, landmarks, and geographic points of interest. Other recent Timeline pieces include the histories of Stage Fort Park, the American Legion Building, and the First Parish Burial Ground.

Adding to the accolades, 1623 Studios announced that they also received four 2019 Telly Awards, for outstanding creative work in video production and design. Now in its 40th year, the Telly Awards annually showcase the best work created within television and across video for all screens. Receiving more than 12,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents, Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world.
1623 Studios won a 2019 Silver Telly for Television General: Documentary- Individual for "I Am More: Art Exhibit" and a second for Online General: Public Interest-Awareness for Essex County Community Foundation. The production of Pathways for Children 50th Anniversary won two 2019 Bronze Tellys for Online General - Public Interest / Awareness and Online General: Not for profit & Fundraising.

Lastly, 1623 Studios was recognized with four Communicator Awards by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts. Founded over two decades ago, The Communicator Awards receives over 6,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest and most competitive awards of its kind in the world that honors creative excellence for communications professionals.
1623 Studios production of Pathways for Children 50th Anniversary video won for excellence in two categories Film/Video Charitable/Nonprofit and Film / Video Fund Raising. The documentary, Seafood Expo 2018 won for distinction in the Film / Video Documentary category with the Cape Ann Report: Blue Economy winning for distinction in the Individual News category.

With these impressive wins, 1623 Studios has garnered over twenty national awards including an Emmy for their original series On the Waterfront, about how local seafood gets to your plate. Earlier this year at the state level the organization won MassCreator awards from the MASS ACCESS in both Short Format and Youth categories for the Pathways for Children's 50th Anniversary video.
