1736 Family Crisis Center Awarded $300,000 Public Safety Grant from Tesoro Foundation -- Funding to Benefit Greater Los Angeles
Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) April 18, 2017 -- The Tesoro Foundation recently awarded 1736 Family Crisis Center (1736 FCC) a Public Safety Grant of $300,000 to promote a safer community through the expansion of a Domestic Violence Outreach, Training and Prevention Program in greater Los Angeles.
“1736 FCC is deeply appreciative of the grant from the Tesoro Foundation and for the Foundation’s partnership in efforts to improve awareness, knowledge and positive action toward domestic violence in our community,” said Carol Adelkoff, Chief Executive Officer of 1736 FCC. “Our ultimate goal is to end this terrible problem that affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in Los Angeles over their lifetimes. This grant will help support our efforts to reach that goal.”
1736 Family Crisis Center, Tesoro and City of Los Angeles Councilmember Joe Buscaino, 15th District, will be among the primary partners to improve police training and response to domestic violence victims of all ages and ensure that citizens can live safer lives, with the mutual goal of decreasing the incidence of domestic abuse. General public education offered by the Domestic Violence Outreach, Training and Prevention Program stresses the importance of recognizing warning signs and seeking help from the local police when necessary.
“The Tesoro Foundation is proud to support 1736 FCC in its heroic efforts to alleviate and eradicate domestic violence in the Los Angeles community,” said Ken Dami, Director of Southern California Public and Government Affairs at Tesoro. “It takes programs that provide training, education and support and strong partnerships between local governments, non-profits and organizations to make an impactful difference in our communities.”
The program includes a Domestic Violence Response Team (DART) collaboration with the Los Angeles Police Department and Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office. As part of DART, 1736 FCC Advocates accompany police officers on domestic violence calls and provide on-site victim support, counseling and safety planning. 1736 FCC Advocates also offer specialized training in domestic violence for law enforcement and violence prevention education for the general public.
