180,000 Moves Later: Ernie’s Van & Storage Marks 80 Years of Service in Northern California
Grass Valley, CA (PRWEB) July 23, 2015 -- Ernie’s Van & Storage, a moving company started during the Great Depression, announces an event to celebrate its 80 years of service to Northern California residents and businesses.
“We estimate that our customers have entrusted us with close to 180,000 moves during our 80 years in business,” says General Manager Matthew Sowell. “We think that calls for a celebration.”
Founder Ernie Sowell traded sharecropping for the dream of a better life when he came west looking for opportunity. He was a hard worker, and he saved enough to buy a truck and start Ernie’s Express in 1935. The company prospered, eventually occupying half a city block in Berkeley, CA. In 1976, two of Ernie’s sons and the current owners; Douglas and Stuart Sowell expanded the business to Grass Valley, CA. It expanded again last year opening a facility in Rocklin, CA.
Today, Ernie’s Van & Storage provides full-service moving and storage solutions for local, long-distance, interstate and international moves of all kinds—residential, office, commercial, and industrial. It operates a modern, well-maintained fleet and employs 40 people during the peak moving season.
In 1998, Ernie’s became an agent for Atlas Van Lines, a national mover known for helping people go new places with excellent service. Ernie’s is proud to be an Atlas World Class Commitment Award Winner (2013) and an eight-time recipient of the Atlas Superior Packing Award for claims prevention.

Matthew says the 80-year event will take place during the week of September 21 to 25, a time Atlas Van Lines sets aside as “BRAVO Week” to honor its Professional Van Operators for their hard work and dedication.
