1-800-PetMeds® Announces Winners of the Annual Change a Pet’s Life Contest
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) January 22, 2016 -- 1-800-PetMeds®, America’s Largest Pet Pharmacy®, is announcing the three winning pets of its second annual Change a Pet’s Life Contest. The contest, inspired by the annual Change a Pet’s Life Day on January 24, was created in 2015 to sponsor the medical treatments and adoption fees of several adoptable pets.
The first-place pet is an English bulldog, entered by the National Mill Dog Rescue in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 4-year-old dog, Regina, was rescued from a puppy mill in December 2015 and is in need of a hernia repair and mammary tumor removals. She has already needed multiple surgeries since her rescue as a result of years of neglect. 1-800-PetMeds® will donate up to $2,000 for her procedures and care and will also feature her story in a video online.
The second-place pet, a young dog named Braveheart rescued by Girard Lifesaver in Girard, Ga., will receive a $1,000 grant to help fund ankle surgery by an orthopedic specialist. The third-place-pet, a dog named Lisette rescued by Operation Paws for Homes in Alexandria, Va., will receive a $500 grant to assist in funding a surgical ACL repair in her hind leg.
Once the three winning pets have recovered from their surgeries and medical treatments, they will be available for adoption through their respective rescue groups.
The Change a Pet’s Life Contest was open to entries from U.S. animal rescues and shelters from January 8, 2016, to January 14, 2016. Voting commenced January 15, 2016, and closed January 20, 2016. The three winning pets were selected based on the number of votes each received.
“Change a Pet’s Life Day is about giving adoptable pets a new lease on life and helping the hard-working animal rescues that save these pets,” said Erin Gleeson, outreach specialist at 1-800-PetMeds®. “We are proud to offer the Change a Pet’s Life Contest each year to fund treatments for pets like Regina, who have been treated so poorly throughout their short lives, and to reduce the financial burden procedures like hers can place on a rescue group like the National Mill Dog Rescue.”
Last year’s winning pet, a pug named Gorilla rescued by Pug Rescue Austin in Austin, Texas, received $2,000 for necessary oral and dental surgery. Since winning the contest last year, he has recovered his health and has been adopted.
1-800-PetMeds® runs this contest through the PetMeds Cares program, which organizes product donations to animal shelters and rescues across the U.S. For more information on the program and to apply, visit http://www.petmeds.org.
