2014 Super Bowl Tickets put Ticket Brokers on High Alert for Fraud
Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) January 28, 2014 -- Fans looking to buy Super Bowl tickets have to be sure they’re dealing with a legitimate ticket service to avoid getting scammed. But they’re not the only ones that have to do due diligence with all of the scam artists coming out for the big game at MetLife Stadium this Sunday. Ticket brokers like Preferred Seating get their share of credit card fraud orders each year and they take great care to verify each order or they could take big losses for sending tickets for the Super Bowl to anyone but the credit card holder.
With the recent data thefts from Target and other major retailers the scammers may be trying to buy Super Bowl tickets using that stolen information and reselling the tickets on the street or through online sites such as Craigslist. Ticket brokers get fraud orders for everything from concerts to theater shows and especially sports events. The bigger the game, the more fraud attempts according to Greg Cullen of PreferredSeat.com.
“We expect a large number of fraud attempts for the Super Bowl this year”, says Greg Cullen. “And most will hit us from Thursday through Super Bowl Sunday.”
In the past fraudsters have gone as far as to order tickets online just before game time and printed them within an hour of the game to sell out in front of the stadium. Super Bowl tickets are all hard stock tickets with tough to copy security features so they’ll be trying to have them shipped overnight or picked up locally to resell them to unsuspecting fans outside the stadium.
That’s why it’s important for fans to stay away from deals that are too good to be true and those that require fans to pay cash to a guy on a street corner say the ticket experts at Preferred Seating. You may have a legitimate ticket but if it’s reported stolen or purchased by fraudulent means the tickets may already have been canceled and reissued so the tickets are now worthless.
“So far we haven’t seen an uptick in fraud attempts from the recent data thefts.” But Cullen says they expect it to pick up in the coming days as the Super Bowl draws near. “We do our due diligence before we ship any Super Bowl tickets and fans should do the same.”
