2015 Heritage & Harvest Tour to Be Held on Saturday, Sept. 26
Shreveport, LA (PRWEB) September 22, 2015 -- The Red River Crossroads Historical & Cultural Association will present the 2015 Heritage & Harvest Tour, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, north of Shreveport along LA Hwy. 3049 and U.S. Hwy. 71 North. Local residents and visitors are invited to spend a day in the country, exploring the history and culture of the region. The 2015 Heritage & Harvest Tour will feature a rare opportunity to tour the historic Missionary Plantation in Ida as well as the Bayou Point Plantation home on Shreveport-Dixie Road (Hwy. 3049). Other points of interest on the tour include area businesses, churches and attractions.
Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at Belcher Presbyterian Church (508 Gray Street in Belcher), Crossroads Museum in Gilliam (located on Hwy. 3049 in Gilliam), Bayou Point Plantation (4610 Shreveport-Dixie Road on Hwy. 3049) or Missionary Plantation (19310 Wynn Road in Ida). The Heritage & Harvest Tour begins on Hwy. 3049 north of Shreveport. From Hwy. 3049, follow heritage tour signage to the tour route. Hwy. 71 North will also lead visitors to the tour route by turning at the Dixie, Belcher, or Gilliam turnoffs.
Missionary Plantation, a working plantation home that overlooks 2,600 acres of cotton, corn and soybean crops as well as 600 acres of pasture, dates back to 1929. Bayou Point Plantation, built in the 1970s, is also a working plantation where pecans, hay, goats and Black Angus cattle are raised. Other points of interest on the tour include historic churches, agricultural businesses and other unique, local businesses located along the route. Available to tour are: Red River Crossroads Museum (located inside the library in Gilliam); Gilliam Gin Company (located on Hwy. 3049 in Gilliam); the Old Hosston School (14905 Oak Street in Hosston); Designs by Carol Quilt Shop (Hwy. 71 North in Mira); Belcher Presbyterian Church (on Gray Street/Hwy. 3049 in Belcher); Lynn Plantation Commissary (located between Belcher and Gilliam on Hwy. 3049); and much more.
A brochure containing a map of the Heritage & Harvest Tour route, as well as a complete listing of participating businesses and attractions, can be picked up at the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau’s downtown visitor center, located at 629 Spring Street in downtown Shreveport. Brochures will also be available on the day of the tour at Belcher Presbyterian Church, Crossroads Museum in Gilliam, Bayou Point Plantation and Missionary Plantation.
