2015 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship held at Colleton River Plantation Club's Dye Course, July 20-25
BLUFFTON, S.C. (PRWEB) July 19, 2015 -- The 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship, conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), will be held at the Pete Dye Course in Colleton River Plantation Club from July 20-25. It has been more than 30 years since this championship has been held in South Carolina. The event is open to the public at no charge with free parking on-site, offering fans and aspiring athletes an opportunity to follow the best junior golfers in one of the Lowcountry’s most spectacular settings.
The U.S. Junior Amateur Championship lets you see the “champions of tomorrow play today.” Tiger Woods won this event three times, in consecutive years from 1991-93. More recently 2015 U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth won twice in 2009 and 2011. Other winners include Johnny Miller (1964), David Duval (1989) and Hunter Mahan (1999). Miller went on to claim the 1973 U.S. Open and the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage, held annually at nearby Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, in 1972 and 1974.
At the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship you’ll be up close to the action. You can walk the fairways with the players you are following in any match. The 156-player field represents 13 countries and 37 U.S. states. Fourteen players were exempt from qualifying, including two of the three youngest players to ever compete in the U.S. Open. Andy Zhang played in the 2012 U.S. Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, when he was 14 years old. Cole Hammer was 15 when he played in the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay, in University Place, Wash.
The U.S. Junior Amateur consists of 36 holes of stroke play on July 20 and 21, after which the field will be reduced to the low 64 scorers. There will be six rounds of match play at the Pete Dye Course, starting July 22. The quarterfinals and semifinals are slated for Friday, July 24. The championship is scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final on Saturday, July 25, starting at 7 a.m. EDT.
The 68th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be played on Colleton River’s Dye Course which Pete Dye has gone on record saying, “This is best course I’ve ever built.” The natural surroundings of the course are breathtaking with water on three sides, views across the Port Royal Sound to the Atlantic Ocean, and magnificent live oaks creating a stage for the most challenging golf. In addition to local and regional coverage, Fox Sports 1 will provide national coverage by televising the championship over the final two days of match play.
