Pekin, Illinois (PRWEB) October 26, 2015 -- When the 2016 iaedp Symposium officially opens on Feb. 18 in Amelia Island, Fla., it will begin with the traditional Presentation of the Colors followed by the iaedp International Flag Procession honoring the professionals who come together each year to advance learning, share groundbreaking information and engage with the world’s most renowned and committed eating disorders professionals.
“The iaedp International Flag Procession is a grand ceremony steeped in the celebration of our national and international chapters,” said Bonnie Harken, Managing Director of The iaedp Foundation. “This year we will spotlight not only the states in the U.S. where we have iaedp chapters, but also many countries that include Australia, Canada, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Italy and Mexico.”
In fact, this year’s Symposium features key sessions in Spanish only that address the latest in eating disorder treatment, causes and science. The iaedp 2016 Symposium will take place over a four-day period, Feb. 18 – 21 and will feature over 40 presentations and workshops in all.
Pre-symposium activity kicks off on Wednesday, Feb. 17 with the return of the popular pre-certification courses. On Thursday, 18 different sessions will take place, including the conclusion of the pre-certification courses and the grand opening reception. Other Thursday highlights also include the first keynote panel discussion, featuring S. Roy Erlichman, PhD, CAP, CEDS.
Keynote speaker Rachel Yehuda, PhD, kicks off sessions on Friday, Feb. 19 with her presentation, “Epigenics: How Trauma and PTSD Affect DNA.” Other keynote speakers on Friday are Margo Maine, PhD, FAED, CEDS, covering “It’s Time to Talk About It! Invisible Women: Treating Eating Disorders at Midlife and Beyond” and Francine Lapides, MFT, who will present “Working Implicitly in Psychotherapy: What Decades of Neuroscience Study has Taught Me about Being a Psychotherapist.” Saturday’s keynote is Steven Porges, PhD, with his presentation, “Eating Disorders Through the Lens of the Polyvagal Theory.”
The symposium closes on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. with the final keynote address, “Renewing your Passion: Protection from Burn-Out and Compassion Fatigue,” by Mary Bellofatto, MA, LMHC, NCC CEDS, TEP.
