2016 NFTE World Series of Innovation, Presented by The Moody’s Foundation,
New York, New York (PRWEB) September 30, 2016 -- Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) kicks off its annual World Series of Innovation business idea challenge, presented by The Moody’s Foundation. This year NFTE asks young people age 14–24 to put on their creative thinking caps to help solve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—global goals that the United Nations has identified as the largest and most serious challenges to humanity. Everyone age 14–24 is encouraged to participate for the chance to win prizes and publicity and to help make a better world.
There are six unique Innovation Challenges on the World Series of Innovation website—http://innovation.nfte.com —and prizes are available for each challenge, ranging from $250 to $2,000 each. Sponsors include The Moody’s Foundation, GoDaddy, MasterCard, Pitney Bowes, and The Coca-Cola Company.
“The World Series of Innovation is an exciting opportunity for young people to apply the entrepreneurial mindset to help solve big problems,” said Shawn K. Osborne, President and CEO of NFTE. “They will be the creators of the next TOMS, the next SpaceX, the next Tesla—and learning at a young age that their ideas can change the world is pivotal. We are deeply grateful to The Moody’s Foundation as our presenting sponsor and to our incredible list of challenge sponsors who make the World Series of Innovation possible.”
As the presenting sponsor of the World Series of Innovation, The Moody’s Foundation is issuing two of the six Innovation Challenges for students, one around SDG #8 (“Design a business that helps people get good jobs—jobs that pay enough and that are enjoyable for the people doing them”), and one around SDG #4 (“Design a business that brings high-quality education to more kids”).
“The Moody’s Foundation shares in NFTE’s commitment to teaching the entrepreneurial mindset and showing young people that they can create the future that they want—both for themselves and for others,” said Frances G. Laserson, President of The Moody’s Foundation. “We are also looking forward to involving these young innovators as thought partners in the important work of creating more economic opportunity and educational opportunities around the world.”
World Series of Innovation is an online competition. Once signed up, youth innovators and their teachers can download a toolkit based on NFTE's award-winning entrepreneurship curriculum, to assist in completing submissions. Schools and community organizations also receive resources to host an accompanying live Innovation Day should they choose to do so.
Completed submissions are due by December 15, 2016. For each of the six Innovation Challenges, there will be two winning teams: the "Adjudicators' Choice" winner selected by the sponsoring organization, and the "People's Choice" winner, chosen by popular online vote in March. Each winning team will receive a prize of $2,000 to share, and a prize of $500 for their school or other community nonprofit organization. Runners up will receive a prize of $250 for the team to share.
In the past, World Series of Innovation participants have gone on to create businesses sparked by their World Series of Innovation ideas.
