NEW YORK (PRWEB) May 17, 2018
The American Foundation of Savoy Orders will present the Foundation’s 2018 Chivalry Award to Mrs. Matilda Raffa Cuomo, in recognition of her outstanding leadership in education and mentoring and lifelong dedication to public service. As the wife of the late former Governor of New York State, Hon. Mario Cuomo, and as the mother of the current New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Matilda Raffa Cuomo has for decades been a beloved and inspirational symbol of the true spirit of chivalry in America and a perfect choice for the Savoy Foundation’s 2018 Chivalry Award. The presentation of the Chivalry Award to Mrs. Cuomo will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Columbus Citizens Foundation townhouse in New York City. Tickets to the Festa della Primavera Spring Awards Reception begin at $225 per person. Junior tickets are available at $175 per person. Proceeds benefit Mentoring USA.
Mrs. Cuomo's leadership role in New York State, across the United States, and through international initiatives, has heightened the visibility of such causes as mentoring, children’s rights, and volunteerism. In 1987, she established the New York State Mentoring Program, the first statewide school-based, one-to-one mentoring project in the United States. To advance the goals of the New York State program, she founded a non-profit organization, Mentoring USA, in 1995. Mentoring USA believes that the presence of a caring adult in a young person’s life increases self-esteem, strengthens relationships with peers and adults, improves academic performance and attendance, and helps combat school drop-out. The impact of Mrs. Cuomo’s mentoring work expanded to include affiliate programs in Italy and Spain in Europe, as well as in Morocco in Africa – with plans to increase its presence in other areas of the Mediterranean region.
In a joint statement, Messrs. Carl Morelli and Joseph Sciame, respectively Chairman of the Board and President of the Savoy Foundation, hailed the occasion: “The Savoy Foundation is pleased to award its 2018 Chivalry Award to Matilda Cuomo. She is an outstanding public personage who has served the Empire State, the nation and the world. Her Mentoring USA enables aspiring young people to achieve success and realize their full potential.”
