24Hr HomeCare Coordinates Holiday Toy Drive with Inland Regional Center
San Bernardino, CA (PRWEB) December 18, 2015 -- Yesterday, the staff of 24Hr HomeCare organized, labeled, and wrapped vanloads of toys for the Inland Regional Center’s Holiday Toy Drive, allowing the nonprofit to continue its annual tradition of providing developmentally disabled individuals with toys for the holidays. As the Regional Center was recently a target of a mass shooting, families that were to receive toys expressed concern over attending a Holiday Toy Drive event held at the Center’s facilities. 24Hr HomeCare’s efforts will allow the Regional Center’s Service Coordinators to deliver wrapped toys directly to its families.
The Inland Regional Center provides resources and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Its core values are independence, inclusion, and empowerment. It is one of California’s 21 non-profit regional centers, and provides services including counseling, outreach, and advocacy. 24Hr HomeCare has been vendorized with California Regional Centers since 2009.
Toy collection efforts began in November, and collection boxes were posted at locations with heavy foot-traffic throughout the counties. Community organizations, local businesses, and residents placed stuffed animals, books, arts and crafts kits, and board games, among other toys, into the collection boxes. Over 1,200 toys were raised through the Holiday Toy Drive, allowing each of the 600 families to receive multiple toys. At yesterday’s toy-wrapping event, 24Hr HomeCare provided lunch for all volunteers, along with wrapping materials.
“When we heard that the families were nervous about attending a big Holiday event at the Inland Regional Center, we knew that we had to find another way to get the toys to them,” said April Stewart, Director at 24Hr HomeCare, “We are so happy that we were able to lend a hand, and the children we care for will have toys delivered to them in time for Christmas this year."
24Hr HomeCare hosts Holiday Toy Drives in conjunction with seven California Regional Centers each year. This marks the 8th year the care provider is hosting its annual Holiday Toy Drives for California Regional Centers.
