360Civic Supports Proposed Addition of Bill to Protect Privacy of Federal Judges to National Defense Authorization Act
With the IronWall360 service, judges and other public servants have a viable option for online privacy today
ORANGE, Calif., Oct. 26, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- 360Civic, a leading provider of online privacy protection to judges, today reiterated its support for the passage of the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act. Introduced in 2021, the bill generally prohibits federal agencies and private businesses from publicly posting certain personal information (e.g., home addresses) of federal judges and their immediate family members. Passage of the bill would require information to be removed from public facing websites upon written request from the federal judge concerned, prohibit data brokers from purchasing or selling such information, and establish programs to protect such information at the state and local level and to enhance security for judges.
After being stalled in Congress despite bipartisan support, the bill may soon pass after three Senators promoted its addition to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2023. "(This) brings us one step closer to protecting federal judges and their families," the senators said in a joint statement. "No judge in America should have to fear for their lives and the safety of their family as they work to deliver equal justice under the law."
"The passage of this legislation would be a significant move in protecting judges from the type of harassment, vandalism, and violence many have experienced, particularly over this past year," said Ron Zayas, CEO, 360Civic. "While enforcing this law may prove a challenge, public servants should know that there are already viable options like IronWall360 in place to give them the upper hand in removing their private information from the web and grant them some peace of mind in the process."
IronWall360 is 360Civic's privacy protection service for public servants that continuously scans the internet for any sites where the client's home address, phone number, and other private data are accessible. 360Civic then contacts those sites to have the content taken down and alerts the client that their information has been removed.
