5 Tips for Stress-Free Travel Without Conflicts

Popular traveling activities include going down south for a nice beach vacation, doing volunteer work with a nonprofit organization, or visiting a national park for some good exercise, outdoor activity, and taste of history.
As head of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, I am fully aware of the different kinds of conflicts that families and groups can have while traveling, and let me tell you, they can truly ruin a trip!
With that being said, no one wants to go on a road trip or travel with friends or family that they might be having conflicts or an argument with. Follow these 5 tips for stress-free travel without any conflict.
1. Resolve Disagreements Before The Trip
This is especially true when taking extended family trips since there are more people involved. For example, if two sisters haven't been seeing eye-to-eye on the way they are raising their kids, then they should definitely sit down and have a talk to resolve this issue before the trip begins. Always focus on the reason for vacationing and have fun!
2. Decide to Put Conflicts Aside
If there is a disagreement between two people prior to their vacation, they should try to put it past them beforehand and focus on having an enjoyable time. This can definitely be easier said than done, but it will help make the trip much more enjoyable for the group as a whole.
3. Engage in Activities Everyone Can Enjoy
During the trip, make sure to focus on doing activities that everyone can take a part in. If the kids want to go to a theme park for the day, make sure that there are other options that older members of the family can enjoy as well, such as put-put or going to a museum.
4. Disengage From Social Networks
It is great to post pictures and memories of the trip, but leave it at that. When on vacation or on a trip, make sure everyone isn't always focused on their phones and social media--these pictures can be posted after the trip. That's not to say that taking pictures isn't a must, but staying engaged with those around you is even more important.
5. Have Fun
The most important tip to avoid a personal conflict of interest while traveling is to enjoy and have fun! As Gretchen at Good Housekeeping said in her blog post, "because of the psychological phenomenon of the 'negativity bias,' we're all more sensitive to negative events and thoughts than to positive ones."
Lastly, when traveling internationally, remember to take a look at travel warnings and stay up to date to avoid that as a potential conflict as well--no one wants flight delays and a stormy car ride to ruin their trip.
