5th Annual John Wooten Leadership Awards will Honor Legacy of Garvey Schubert Barer Attorney Keven Davis
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 28, 2014 -- During the 5th Annual John Wooten Leadership (JWL) Awards Ceremony, the Community Leader Award will be presented to Garvey Schubert Barer to honor the efforts of the firm’s late friend and colleague, Keven Davis, for the firm’s long-standing and unwavering commitment to diversity. Keven Davis was an attorney with Garvey Schubert Barer for 30 years before his untimely passing on December 23, 2012. Not only was Keven instrumental in launching Garvey Schubert Barer’s flourishing Sports, Arts and Entertainment practice, he also made a lasting impact on the entire sports community.
According to Hillary H. Hughes, Chair of Garvey Schubert Barer’s Sports, Arts and Entertainment Group, “Keven Davis was widely hailed for being a mentor and champion advocate to young athletes and artists. He helped shape the history and culture of the firm and served as an outstanding leader who was committed to winning on behalf of our clients.”
The John Wooten Leadership Awards are hosted by Southern California-based ESP Education & Leadership Institute and presented annually to the professional football player, NFL executive and sports personality whose play, community service and extracurricular activities best exemplify the leadership and vision of John Wooten, whose NFL career spanned over 50 years as a player and front office executive. Wooten was known for promoting diversity and equality of job opportunity in the coaching, front office and scouting staffs of NFL teams.
Everett L. Glenn, President of the National Sports Authority, a division of ESP Education & Leadership Institute, said, “We are honored to recognize Garvey Shubert Barer with our JWL Community Award in recognition of the firm's longstanding and unwavering commitment to diversity and as our way to honor Keven Davis's legacy.”
Glenn recounted that in 2010, when New York was awarded the 2014 Super Bowl, both he and Keven Davis had agreed to work together on the Taste of the Game events that are sponsored by the National Sports Authority. The Taste of the Game events are directed at involving the minority community as well as others in the excitement of the Super Bowl and the city in which it is held. Other Taste events include the Business of Sports Success (BOSS) program, which is a full day of activities for several hundred student athletes focused on educating students about the many different non-playing career opportunities in sports.
During the John Wooten Leadership Awards ceremony, Garvey Schubert Barer attorneys will be present to celebrate diversity and the individuals and organizations that make a difference. According to Garvey Schubert Barer attorney, Ronald J. Knox, “We are so very honored to receive this award in Keven’s name. We know that he would be proud to be honored with a John Wooten Leadership Award for the promotion of diversity and equality, a mission he strongly supported.”
The 5th Annual John Wooten Leadership (JWL) Awards will be presented at the awards ceremony on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, located in New York City.
