61% of Planning Applications Rejected on Flood Risk Grounds Due to FRA
(PRWEB UK) 25 October 2013 -- Analysis of the Environment Agency's annually published planning application lists shows that 61% of applications objected to on flood risk grounds were due to the submission of an unsatisfactory Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) report.
Out of a total 2638 planning applications objected to on flood risk grounds, 997 (38%) were due to the submission of an “unsatisfactory FRA/FCA” whilst a further 601 (23%) were specifically due to an unsatisfactory “surface water” FRA/FCA.
Furthermore, 19% of applications were rejected because the planner failed to provide an FRA report when they were required to do so. Other reasons for objections include failure to provide a Sequential Test and failure to demonstrate Part C of the Exception Test.
The statistics highlight the importance of seeking advice from Flood Risk Assessment specialists, especially when proposed developments are situated close to a flood plain.
