The annual event began in 2009 and has become a yearly tradition. "It takes a great deal of coordination and staff and volunteer hours to pull this off each year, but when you hear the result, it takes your breath away", says Trevor McGuire, SingSnap's President and CEO. "Everyone looks forward to it".
Together, SingSnap's staff decides on the song that will be sung. At this point, it is up to Event Coordinator, Shannon Cavitt, to recruit volunteers from the membership, post the guidelines for recordings and follow up on completed parts.
Each voice is recorded individually and volunteers listen to each of the hundreds of recordings to ensure the recording is free from external noise or static. Community members are encouraged to sing along to the karaoke track created by SingSnap's House Band. The individual recordings are then blended into one by CTO and resident mix master, Jason Copp.
"It gives me chills in the best way", says Community Services and Marketing Manager, Annie McFadden. "It's a moving experience to hear so many of our members singing together".
SingSnap was founded in 2006 as an online community for karaoke enthusiasts. Registered members can record themselves singing their favorite tunes and share them with the community and the world.
