70% Of SMBs Note That Quiet Quitting Spiked Since COVID-19
The Great Resignation combined with hybrid and remote work arrangements has brought attention to this growing trend in the workforce that the media has dubbed "quiet quitting."
CHICAGO, Nov. 7, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- UpCity, in conjunction with Pollfish, has released a survey assessing quiet quitting in more detail, including the potential factors that are making it suddenly more prevalent and how employers can mitigate those factors.
The Quiet Quitting survey gathers insight from 500 small business owners and human resources subject matter experts on quiet quitting and its correlation with the pandemic, as well as quiet quitting signs, causes, and preventative measures.
Statistical highlights include:
- 57% of small business owners and HR professionals note quiet quitting as a moderate problem in the 2022 workforce
- 70% of SMBs say that quiet quitting increased since the COVID-19 pandemic
- 39% of respondents feel that all age generations are equally susceptible to quiet quitting
- 50% of SMBs believe hybrid and in-person employees are equally likely to quiet quit as fully-remote employees
Heidi Sullivan, SVP of Product & Marketing at UpCity, says that this is another testament to the growing popularity of remote work before the pandemic and the need for the modern workforce to evolve with the increasingly flexible needs of employees.
"It's been a very challenging year for the majority of employees and employers alike," Sullivan said. "And that's why we see a talented workforce rife with employees who feel abandoned and less willing to in turn give their best efforts back to the company. Many business owners are chalking this behavior up as the burnout and trauma response to the global crisis event that it is."
Sullivan continued, "However, for some this is subjective. Others view this decline in productivity as quiet quitting and employees taking advantage of the lack of oversight. Some employers are even using this phenomenon as an opportunity to justify a full return to the office."
