911Cellular First to Bring Indoor Positioning Technology to Campus Safety Departments
Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) August 29, 2016 -- Thousands of students and faculty are heading back to campus with an enhanced safety app developed by 911Cellular, the technological leader of smartphone-enabled public safety communications tools serving universities, schools, hospitals, municipalities and other large institutions. Through indoor positioning technology, campus safety departments for Case Western Reserve University, Louisiana State University, Oklahoma State University, and Vanderbilt University are able to automatically identify and transmit the precise floor and closest room number of a student, faculty or staff member in need of help.
Internal positioning system developed by 911Cellular can save first responders a significant amount of time in an emergency. Agencies with this deployed technology have reported as much as a 75 percent reduction in response time locating a person in need of help in emergencies. “With several large buildings on campus, just knowing a student’s inside still leaves some guess-work, but with this new technology we are going above and beyond to ensure we can assist those in need as quickly and accurately as possible,” said Lt. Kevin Scott from Louisiana State University.
911Cellular is the first in the nation to provide Indoor Positioning System. This technology is embedded in 911Celluar’s 911Shield app that currently is used by more than 50 institutions across the nation. The primary function of 911Shield is to serve as an emergency communication tool between the university community and campus police. The app, which campus communities can download for free on both Android and iPhone devices, offers four major features — emergency calling, submit a tip, safety check and the student handbook/emergency procedures.
“We are honored to equip these campus communities with one of the most advanced location identifying system in the nation,” said Chad Salahshour, an active law enforcement professional and founder of 911Celluar. “With 911Shield and the indoor positioning services, campus safety first responders are now able to see hyper-accurate locations of distressed persons that some of the nation’s largest departments, like New York City and Los Angeles, don’t even have access to.”
