American Legion Post 65 and HeroZona Foundation Kick-Off Event Series During Black History Month
Engagements Include R&B Ladies Night, Wine Down 2nd Sundays and more!
PHOENIX, Feb. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The HeroZona Foundation and American Legion Travis L. Williams Post 65, are kicking off a new series of events at Post 65 in celebration of Black History Month. Engagements will include R&B Ladies Nights, Wine Down 2nd and 4th Sundays, Mega 104.3 Last Saturday Party, Inter-post Visitation Weekend and more. The events will be sponsored by Mega 104.3 Arizona's Old School and 101.1 The Beat Hip Hop & Hits and free for all American Legion members with a $10 donation from all non-members.
The first event kicked off on Sunday, Feb. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. with a Wine Down 2nd & 4th Sunday's event. Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at the American Legion Post 65, there will be smooth jazz from The Franchise Band until 8 p.m. and guests can enjoy good music and wine until 9 p.m. Starting on Thursday, Feb. 20, Post 65 will introduce its R&B Ladies Night. The event will take place every third Sunday of the month from 7 to 10 p.m. and feature music from Vaughn Willis and Ear Candy. The third event will kick-off on Saturday, Feb.29 with Mega 104.3's Last Saturday of the Month Day Party, featuring DJ Illmatic and DJ Psychopat from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each of the above events will occur monthly through May 2020 at Post 65 (1624 E. Broadway Rd.) in Phoenix.
In February, Post 65 will also host the 32nd annual inter-post visitation weekend. The weekend will kick-off on Friday, Feb. 21 and include a meet and greet from 2 to 3 p.m. and Post 65 party from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 22, there will be a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. and then American Legion members can enjoy a Dominoes & Bid Wiz Tournament with The Franchise Band from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Afterwards, participants will enjoy a dinner program from 5 to 7 p.m. with the Former Democratic Leader of the Arizona State House of Representatives, honorable Art Hamilton as keynote speaker. The program will also host additional guest speakers and party night with a DJ from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. The weekend will wrap up on Sunday, Feb. 23 with a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. On Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., this will be a closed post event for members and guests only.
In March, new events will kick-off the month at Post 65 like Karaoke & Cocktails with Roosevelt and DJ Money Mike. The first Karaoke & Cocktails will occur on Sunday, March 1 and run every first Sunday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. The Post 65 is also hosting an Open Mic Night hosted by Harold "HB" Branch, national renowned poet, starting on Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m. The event will have a $10 donation and be held every third Sunday of the month, all proceeds will go to benefit the HeroZona Foundation's Play it Forward program. The Post 65 is planning its inaugural birthday bash on Saturday, April 18, celebrating 63 years in South Phoenix. The event will feature The Franchise Band from 7 to 10 p.m. and doors will open at noon. Additional details are coming soon.
The funds raised from these community nights will benefit the HeroZona Foundation and American Legion Travis L. William Post 65's nonprofit program, Play It Forward. The HeroZona Foundation's Play It Forward program was created as an initiative to expose students to the arts at an early age and give them a head start with opportunities to learn, create and grow. Many of these programs include students from the Roosevelt Elementary School District 66, Phoenix Union High School District and benefit zip codes 85040, 85041 and 85042.
Additional community programs at Travis L. Williams American Legion Post 65 supported by The HeroZona Foundation include Celebrating The Dream, an event honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; Memorial Day Appreciation BBQ, a community event honoring those that made the ultimate sacrifice; Forgotten Heroes Appreciation Breakfast, providing breakfast for veterans that come on to hard times; Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway, providing individuals and families in need with a free turkey, fruits and vegetables; and a Bike Giveaway, providing bikes to under served youth in the community during the holiday season.
