Arizona Corporate Council on Veteran Careers and Cisco Launch CyberVetsUSA Training and Certification Program in Maricopa County
PHOENIX (PRWEB) September 10, 2019 -- The Arizona Corporate Council on Veteran Careers today announced their partnership with Cisco and a consortium of tech companies in launching CyberVetsUSA, a program which provides free training and employment support opportunities to veterans, transitioning service members, National Guard and Reservists, and their spouses.
Tech industry partners at Cisco, Amazon Web Services (AWS), NetApp, NDG, (ISC)2, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Onward to Opportunity (O2O) part of the Institute for Veterans and Military Affairs expect to train more than 200 veterans in Arizona over the next year.
CyberVetsUSA is a skills-to-job pathway that aims to fast-track those coming out of the military into high-demand cyber careers. It is a flexible training program, primarily online, offered by industry partners who also provide career resources and connections to job opportunities for those who complete the training and certification. This training program is approximately 12-to-14 weeks, and the industry certification test is included as part of the program.
According to Cisco’s director of veterans initiatives, Michael Veysey, in December 2018 Cisco’s Talent Acquisition Research Team conducted an Arizona IT jobs assessment showing over 13,000 IT job openings, 25% of which require a background in cybersecurity or a related field. This report also showed that between 2014 and 2024, computer and mathematical jobs are expected to grow by 29.3%, making it the state’s second highest growing occupation group.
“The timing of this launch could not be better as Arizona continues to attract more and more tech and cyber-based businesses with a shortage of qualified individuals to fill the positions,” said Glenn Hamer, president and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “We are thankful to Cisco and the Arizona Corporate Council on Veteran Careers for providing this opportunity to Arizona’s military families to receive this important training to transition to meaningful, and important careers in cyber security.”
Arizona is the fourth state, and first state in the West, to offer the CyberVetsUSA training program, and the Arizona Corporate Council on Veteran Careers (ACCVC) is pleased to partner with this Silicon Valley consortium to launch this training program in Arizona. The Arizona Corporate Council on Veteran Careers was launched in 2016 to maximize career opportunities for veterans, military service members and their families, and consists of Arizona companies like APS, USAA, Southwest Gas, and Tri-West Healthcare Alliance that employ veterans in large numbers.
“As a council, we identified early in the year that we wanted to focus our collective efforts on increasing career growth opportunities for veterans, service members and their spouses, and CyberVetsUSA is just the sort of program we wanted to align with,” said Hal Pittman, founder and co-chairman of the Arizona Corporate Council on Veteran Careers. “We will put the full influence of this council and its member companies behind this program to ensure those looking to advance their career, or begin anew in cyber security, have the opportunity to do so. This is an exciting year for veterans in Arizona, and we as a council are honored to help with this launch.”
The announcement was made at the Travis L. Williams American Legion Post 65 in Phoenix along with members of the HeroZona Foundation, elected officials and community supporters.
