Asana Recovery to Distribute Free Narcan at Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe Event on August 31
Costa Mesa, California (PRWEB) August 04, 2023 -- Asana Recovery has partnered with the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe and will distribute free Narcan at the Overdose Awareness Day event on August 31, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Concho Respect Gym, 230 Black Kettle Boulevard in Concho, Oklahoma. Asana Recovery will host a booth at the event and also provide training on how to properly use or administer the life-saving medication.
The Cheyenne and Arapaho Overdose Awareness Day will recognize those who have lost their lives to overdose during the memorial to be held at the event. While highlighting resources for recovery and treatment of substance abuse, the event will also offer “drug takeback”, where people are encouraged to bring unwanted medication; Narcan distribution, provided by Asana Recovery; medication lock bags; Deterra safe disposal bags; free T-shirt; and other resources for complete addiction care.
Asana Recovery is an addiction treatment facility located in California with a large alumni community in Oklahoma as well as staff in the region, that includes an alumni coordinator that facilitates sobriety events and clinical outreach representatives. Participating in the event will be an excellent opportunity for the Asana Recovery team to meet the Cheyenne and Arapaho community and raise awareness for overdose prevention through the distribution of Narcan and information on resources that Asana Recovery offers to the tribe.
“Oklahoma is home to a number of our alumni, who have completed addiction treatment in our California facilities, and many are members of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe,” says Amber Vaughan, admissions director of Asana Recovery. “We are grateful for the opportunity to be involved in this event and provide Narcan, a medication that can save lives in an emergency.”
Earlier this month, Asana Recovery was approved to distribute free Narcan and will soon launch a program that allows the public to obtain the medication from its Southern California outpatient clinic. The medication, also known as naloxone, has limited community accessibility unless provided as a prescription. It is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids, including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid medications, when given in time.
"The Tribal Opioid Response Project aims to address the substance use disorder crisis in our underserved tribal communities by providing access to naloxone, prevention materials, recovery groups, treatment facilities, and transitional living organization at this overdose awareness event,” says Darien L. Chebahtah, project director of the Tribal Opioid Response Project for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. “It is a privilege to work alongside Asana Recovery in the fight against substance use disorder. We hope to change many lives with this continuing partnership."
