Ascend Launches National Palliative Care Services To Fill Growing Need
Ascend continues their mission of providing best-in-class care to patients and family members by adding palliative care service to their family of brands.
CRANDFORD, N.J., Jan. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ascend, a family of brands focused on innovative health and wellness programs, is announcing the addition of palliative care to their healthcare continuum. This addition sprung forth from the need to offer best-in-class care to patients and family members across the healthcare continuum. By adding palliative care services in all Ascend states, this provides a unique opportunity to work with hospital-based palliative care programs that are looking for a best-in-class community option that offers the full continuum of care and services. Ascend will also be able to provide palliative care services in partnership with Skilled Nursing facilities, Independent and Assisted Living facilities as well as in the patients home.
Palliative Care works towards the goal of making people with serious illnesses feel better, by preventing or treating the symptoms and side effects of disease and it's treatment. It also focuses on the emotional, social, practical and spiritual problems that illnesses can bring up.
"Palliative care is one of the most misunderstood and therefore least used benefits for those in need of symptom management throughout a disease process," said Dr. Ritu Suri, National Medical Director of Palliative Care at Ascend. "The fact that this program is a priority of Ascend showcases our commitment to helping patients feel better, and truly showcases Ascend's commitment to making a difference. I am so thrilled to be a part of that mission through this program."
Dr. Suri has served as Medical Director of Ascend Hospice in Cranford, NJ since 2003. She was also the Medical Director of Pace Lutheran Senior Life from 2017 to 2018, and serves as CEO & Practicing Physician of Chief Family Medicine: Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Suri is a Certified Medical Director and is Board Certified in Family Medicine, and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Ascend's palliative care program aims to decrease hospital readmission rates, improve communication between patients and their physicians, decrease unplanned transfers to the hospital, and ensure that patients are receiving the right care, at the right time and in the right location
"We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Ritu Suri will be leading Ascend's national palliative care program," said Anthony Spero, President of Ascend. "By adding palliative care services to the Ascend continuum of care it allows our care teams to work more closely with patients and their family members earlier in the disease trajectory. Earlier intervention with a focus on the individual patient will always be at the core of Ascend's mission, vision, and values. New Jersey will launch first and then the other states will follow. I'm thrilled to bring Dr. Ritu Suri on full time to lead the program on a national level. At Ascend, we are committed to making a difference, to listening and learning what our patients and their families need, and we will continue to fill those needs and be that difference. Palliative care is just one example of that."
