Author Explains Why Immigrants Make America Great in New Novel
Blanca De La Rosa's "Pursuing a Better Tomorrow" details hardships immigrants face to achieve success and blessings upon reaching the United States
ALDIE, Va., Sept. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In America, many are quick to cast aside the importance of immigrants in our society, clinging to prejudiced preconceptions of a marginalized group of people. Author and former ExxonMobil executive Blanca De La Rosa challenges this by sharing her own immigration story in "Pursuing a Better Tomorrow", a memoir detailing her family's transition from the Dominican Republic to the United States in the 1960s.
The novel transports the reader to a time long forgotten with a readable historical overview of the Taíno, the conquistadors, early settlers, the Spanish Empire and the Dominican Republic, interspersed within the narrative through the perspective of the character of the era.
De La Rosa has documented more than 100 years of her family's history across three generations and woven together one unified story of hardship, immigration, displacement, confusion, struggle to assimilate and eventually the self-discovery and growth of the family. From humble beginnings, and through a myriad of challenges, De La Rosa was able to unfold a life of blessings and opportunities.
As De La Rosa rose through the ranks at ExxonMobil during her 30-year career to become a Hispanic female executive, she hopes to inspire other Hispanic young adults and Dreamers to follow in her footsteps.
"Children constantly look to those around them to serve as role models," she said. "It's my sincere hope and desire that my words will help and inspire others to believe in their abilities, dare to dream, and reach for the stars because achieving the American dream is possible."
One Amazon reader praises the novel: "I enjoyed this book so much! It was so interesting to learn Ms. de la Rosa's family history and I loved how she wove the history of the countries of her heritage into the stories. I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn't put it down."
