Avid Collector Announces His Search For Original 1958 Alan Freed Big Beat Boxing Style Concert Posters.
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) September 04, 2018 -- Avid collector, Andrew Hawley from Vintage Rock Posters, announces his search for original 1958 Alan Freed Big Beat boxing style concert posters. The Big Beat concert series featured the founding fathers of Rock n Roll such as Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and other artists.
According to Hawley, “Alan Freed was an amazing Rock n’ Roll pioneer and he was instrumental introducing this important music genre to a wider audience in America in the late 1950s. Freed started as a DJ on the Armed Forces Radio in WWII. After the war, he moved to Cleveland to work in radio and met a local record store owner. The store owner mentioned that he was selling a lot of rhythm and blues records. They teamed up and Freed started playing R & B music on a powerful radio station that exposed the music to a wider audience. His show was called the Moondog House. It was hip and the music was easy to dance too. Freed parlayed his radio success by promoting the Big Beat concert tour that brought Rock n Roll to audiences across the Upper Midwest.”
Hawley continues, “The 17 x 22 inch concert poster blanks were created by Murray Printing Company and printed on heavy cardboard. The boxing style layout included pictures of each artist, names of songs and venue information of each tour date. The top of the poster included a picture of Alan Freed and his name with arrows on each side. The arrows were used to prevent printing venue information over Freed’s picture. The venue information for each upper mid-west city the Big Beat played was added on top of the poster. For the Akron concert, dark blue rather than black was used as the background color.”
