Award Winning Poet Releases Her Second Poetry Collection in the Candle Poems Series
"Afsanah In Her Words" unites common experiences with cultural values
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y., June 12, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Celebrating powerful emotions in their ever-evolving forms of everyday challenges of life, Poet Esma Ashraf debuts her second collection of poetry in her Candle Poems series, "Afsanah in Her Words."
Inspired by her Pakistani roots, the book gets its title from the Urdu word for story. In this collection of 70 poems Ashraf shares insight into her heart, journey through life, and perspectives on the world around her.
"It is a romantic book of poems that portrays Ishq, which is Arabic for love, in an extraordinary fashion," Ashraf said. "A concept of devotion is considered divine in certain cultures, as love is sacred and spiritual. My inspiration comes from many muses; my dreams, nature, my real-life experiences, my background and my strong romantic nature."
"Afsanah in Her Words" explores a variety of themes and emotions, and features poems titled multiple languages, including Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Urdu, and English.
"By presenting my cultural heritage, I want to show the beautiful side of the Eastern world to the Western World," Ashraf said. "I want readers to enjoy and learn about different ethnic backgrounds, and to consider cultural values at a larger scale."
Ashraf hopes that readers will relate to the common experiences described in her poetry.
