Belatrix Software Hosts Tech Day To Help Youngsters Learn About Technology
MENDOZA, Argentina (PRWEB) November 15, 2018 -- Belatrix Software, a leading software development company, held its annual Tech Day in Mendoza, Argentina. Belatrix and Champagnat University invited high school students from different schools to the day-long event. More than 100 people attended.
Tech Day has become a regular occurrence at Belatrix, as part of our efforts to introduce teenagers to technology, and promote technology-focused careers. A trained team of volunteers supported the students during the activities. The goal was “wake-up to IT vocations.” It is targeted at youths who have no or limited knowledge or experience with coding or programming. We sought to demystify it and demonstrate that it's not boring to programme. We aimed to show that it is enjoyable, a passion, and that it can show you how to take or change decisions.
The labor market is changing rapidly in many countries, but a constant concern from employers is the challenge in finding people with technology skills. Executives know that technology is vital to meeting their core business challenges. The shortage of tech talent means that those youngsters who develop tech skills, will be well-placed in the labor market in the coming years. In addition to hosting this annual event, Belatrix is active throughout the year in promoting technology at schools and universities, for instance regularly inviting students to visit its offices. Belatrix experts regularly provide talks and training courses.
During the event students used a programming language called “Scratch.” Researchers at MIT designed Scratch to be an easy way to introduce people to coding and programming. Belatrix collaborators were on hand to help, and also answer questions about what it is like to work with technology on a daily basis. While the main purpose was to introduce youngsters to programming, there was also a competitive element, as the students were challenged to create computer games using the skills that they had just learnt during the day. Prizes included complete scholarships to study at Champagnat University.
Mónica Colombo, Belatrix´s Director of Knowledge & Growth Integration Area, hosted the event, and commented, “We were delighted to welcome everyone to Tech Day, and provide an introduction to programming, what a programmer´s day is like, and offer insight into what it's like to work with technology. For those that won scholarships to study at university, I wish them all the best with their studies. And for everyone who participated, I hope they enjoyed the event and will now be even more motivated to learn about the potential for tech-focused careers and understand their impact in the world of work.”
