Ben Crump Awards 2020 Law School Scholarship to Jaden Zwick
Ben Crump announces the winner of the Law School Scholarship
ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ben Crump Law PLLC has awarded its Law School Scholarship to Jaden Zwick, 24, a first-year law student at the UCLA David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy in Los Angeles.
Miss Zwick grew up in Federal Way, WA, the daughter of a single mother. Her essay, "Mentorship for Solidarity," details the ways that she had been mentored to success. And her resume shows how Miss Zwick is dedicated to mentoring others like herself.
Miss Zwick examines the racial inequities she and her older brother had to face as biracial children in a low-income household dependent upon public assistance. Though she was identified as a smart student with potential, her brother was unjustly identified as a "delinquent", as early as elementary school. She wrote: "By high school he spent more of his adolescence incarcerated than in classes."
Scholarship Awarded to Those with a Commitment to Mentorship
The Ben Crump Law School Scholarship awards $2,500 to two law school students per year. Students must have a financial need, academic potential, and a commitment to mentorship.
Miss Zwick, a 2018 Gonzaga University graduate, went to college on a scholarship program through Tacoma-based Degrees of Change's Act Six program. This program provides tuition and mentorship to around 30 students a year at partner colleges. Through every step of her education, she said she received tremendous support and mentorship that helped guide her.
"As I benefited from elders investing in me, I continually invested in youth through formal programs and organic relationships," she wrote.
After graduation, she became an Act Six program coordinator, helping students like herself. She also served as a human rights commissioner for the City of Seattle Office of Civil Rights. She received the King County Bar Association LSAT Preparation Grant that paid for an LSAT prep course, the LSAT exam, and the admission fee for six law schools.
