Biodex Supports Screening Events for Falls Prevention Awareness Day
SHIRLEY, N.Y. (PRWEB) September 19, 2018 -- To honor this year’s Falls Prevention Awareness Day, Biodex Medical Systems, Inc. is encouraging medical facilities and wellness centers to get involved in preventing falls in their communities. Throughout the month, the medical equipment manufacturer offers helpful resources and marketing support, and will host a photo contest to highlight facilities that are making a difference.
Each year on September 22 – the first day of fall – the National Council on Aging (NCOA) sponsors Falls Prevention Awareness Day to raise awareness about ways to prevent fall-related injuries among older adults. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths among adults 65 years and older. Medical and wellness facilities with access to Biodex balance technology are well-equipped to pinpoint any balance deficiencies and help stop falls before they happen.
In just two minutes, therapists can administer a computerized fall risk screening test using the Biodex Balance System SD, or its portable counterpart, the BioSway. The device’s computer compares test results to age-matched “normal” persons. When fall risk is detected, therapists can recommend a program to help patients develop the muscle strength and balance necessary for them to walk more safely.
