Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association Distributes Basic Needs to Detroit Families
Black Mothers' Breastfeeding Association hosts a basic needs giveaway for Detroit women and babies to help relieve economic stressors caused by COVID19.
DETROIT, Oct. 28, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Black Mothers' Breastfeeding Association is pleased to accept an award for $33,333 from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan's COVID-19 Relief Fund. The pandemic is straining families' abilities to afford day-to-day essentials. This award will help to meet the basic needs of Detroit mothers and babies as they navigate through the stressors of the COVID-19 crisis.
"When a global pandemic caused an economic downturn, unemployment, health and safety concerns, organizations, and social agencies shuttered and closed operations. However, BMBFA remained open, vigilant, committed, and more determined to continue the services for mothers and babies in the City of Detroit. During this significant disruption, BMBFA received a grant from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. This gift provides African American mothers and their babies with the needed resources to sustain them during these uncertain times. The BMBFA Board of Directors and Founding Executive Director are grateful to our benefactors for their generous contribution and extend a heart-filled thank you for their support," expressed Black Mothers' Breastfeeding Association's President, Wilma Taylor-Costen.
Economic and health disparities have both been amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving some Detroit families even more in need than ever before. BMBFA hopes to reduce the financial and health stressors burdening the Black community. The basic needs giveaway is essential for our community during these trying times.

BMBFA will partner with the Your goodVillage Collective, WIN Network, Pathways Academy, Focus: HOPE, Development Centers, and Mommies in the D to distribute essential items that include toiletries, diapers, women's care, household items, winter accessories, baby products and other personal needs.

BMBFA is a 501(c)3 non-profit community-based organization and the lead for many national programs aligned with the organization's mission to reduce racial inequities in breastfeeding support for black families.
