Branden & Rayni Williamses' Lenny Kravitz-Designed Home Featured in Architectural Digest
The Trousdale Estates home combines 1970s L.A. glamour with mid-century design details.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Realtors and property developers Branden and Rayni Williams, the dynamic husband-and-wife duo behind Williams & Williams Estates Group, gave Architectural Digest an exclusive tour of their Trousdale home designed by rock legend Lenny Kravitz of Kravitz Design. After a long search to find the perfect designer for their dream home, Branden stumbled onto Kravitz Design's website and instantly fell in love with the funky, eclectic style. Serendipitously, he ran into Lenny the very next day in Beverly Hills. "My immediate reaction was, Who is this crazy person chasing me down Santa Monica Boulevard, yelling at me from his car window?" says Kravitz. However, he was soon captured by Branden's vision and agreed to design the dream home from the ground up. "We wanted the house to be an homage to Trousdale's mid-century heyday but more over-the-top and funky, without any rules," notes Williams to Architectural Digest. "Think Slim Aarons meets Casino."
Writer Kamala Nair's digital story and Trevor Tondro's colorful photos showcased everything from the cheery backyard swimming pool to the open-concept kitchen and dining area, which features a hand-blown amber-glass light fixture suspended above a 1950s handcrafted Parisian table. Created in the footprint of a Jack Charney mid-century house, the 5,500-square-foot home evokes the spirit of the original with only slight changes such as higher ceilings and an additional 1,000 square feet of living space. For four years, the couple collaborated closely with Kravitz to bring his signature Rock and Rock sensibility to the hilltop home by mixing bohemian pieces (such as a pair of giant resign tucks, a Playboy-inspired pink clamshell bed, and a 300-pound bronze tiger's head) with bold yellows, oranges, and metallics.
Branden and Rayni searched for over two years to find the perfect purple onyx for a striking shower and scoured for one-of-a-kind accent details like 1920s chinoiserie. Kravitz paid painstaking attention to even the tiniest of details. "My design aesthetic can go in many different directions depending on the client and the project, but where Branden and I align is in the extravagant and bold expression of 1970s Los Angeles glamour," he says. For the kids, he created a room with a 1960s reupholstered day bed, Fredrick Kunath oil painting, and Melvin Scokolsky photos as well as a grassy play area in the side yard.
The Williamses' collaboration with Kravitz later inspired a mid-century modern collection for Rocky Mountain Hardware. They also designed and developed the Stanley House, a Sunset Strip spec home that sold for $33 million.
