ARLINGTON, Texas, Nov. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- interRel Consulting today launched the 2019 version of its State of Business Analytics (SoBA) survey. The SoBA19 survey is the middle year of a five-year study of analytics in the information age. The survey polls companies on the current state of their Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) and Business Intelligence (BI) platforms including planning, reporting, consolidation, and cloud adoption. The survey is open to all companies at epm.bi/survey.
By taking the survey each year, companies are able to see the changes in their own EPM/BI platform and watch trends over these next few critical years in technology disruption. Over the last two years, the industry has seen an increased move to the cloud resulting in over 50% of companies have some form of EPM & BI applications in the Cloud. interRel will publish the survey results in January 2019 and continue to conduct the survey through 2021.
Our inaugural survey in 2017 identified five key disruptors that defined the world of financial close, planning, and reporting. And our 2018 survey showed how over 250 companies were doing in the world of reporting, analysis, planning, and consolidation. These two years of data allowed us to see the current EPM/BI space and exactly what changed over the course of a year. The 2019 survey will give us three years of data so we can start seeing a trend of where the world of business analytics is headed. The January 2019 webcast will reveal changes in your own platforms as well as trends in technology disruption.
"2017, our first year, was about getting an initial data point: where were companies with their reporting, consolidation, planning, and analytics. Year two was about getting a line: were companies improving and in which areas? Year three is about establishing a trend: are we curving up or down over time," said Edward Roske, CEO of interRel. "We are not only documenting the curve this year, we are trying to find out 'why' these changes are occurring. We know we're evolving in FP&A and other areas, but what's driving the change? We're digging deeper in this year's survey to try to find out."
The overwhelming amount of available data in today's uncertain market creates numerous challenges for businesses. Predicting and understanding change by recognizing trends and the impact they have is crucial to remaining strategic and competitive. Immense value can be gained by garnering insights from data and then feeding it back into strategy.
