At its core, No-Nonsense Nurturer is a four-step model that helps educators create and deliver precise directions for their students. Klei Borrero and CT3 co-founder Lee Canter codified No-Nonsense Nurturer by observing the teaching habits of highly effective educators across the country. Before leading CT3, Klei Borrero served as a classroom teacher, principal and area superintendent. She spent more than a decade leading turnaround initiatives for underperforming schools in Oakland and East Palo Alto, California. Under her supervision, Klei Borrero propelled schools to significantly exceed all state academic benchmarks, organizational fundraising and financial goals, teacher retention rates, and family and student satisfaction ratings.
Klei Borrero has served as an adjunct professor in Educational Leadership and Teacher Education at San Jose State University and the University of San Francisco, and guest lecturer at Stanford University on school reform, educating immigrant students and setting high academic standards in historically marginalized communities. She was also a national director for resources for Indispensable Schools and Educators and serves as the program committee chairperson for the board of Reading Partners. She received her Bachelor’s Degree at Miami University, her Masters of Education in Educational Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and earned her Doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of California, Berkeley.
