Celebrate Pride in the LGBTQ Capital of America, Provincetown, Cape Cod, Mass.

(PRWEB) May 13, 2019 -- While this May 31st - June 2nd is only Provincetown’s second year celebrating Pride, there are few places in the United States that are a better suited for the celebration. Art installations, dance parties, and a community centered around true inclusion are some of the many things that make Provincetown special.
In Provincetown, you’ll find the ideal location to celebrate the vibrant and unique experience offered at this year’s second annual Provincetown Pride. As New York will be hosting this year’s World Pride, Provincetown offers an opportunity to escape the massive crowds and instead celebrate with a dedicated community in the comforts of this coastal beach town. This year is also the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, the event that sparked the gay liberation movement across the U.S. The weekend will consequently have a dash of history sprinkled into an event defined by inclusion, harmony, and love.
The weekend sets sail when the Pride Ferry departs Boston for Provincetown on Friday at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Hop aboard to get the party started as you cruise across the sea with other eager party-goers. Once in Provincetown, the first Pride installation is the Stonewall Stroll, where 17 poster-size panels are placed around town to illustrate the story of the famed riots that sparked an international LGBTQ consciousness. The Stonewall Stroll begins on Friday at 3 p.m. and runs until the end of the day Sunday. The stroll is self-guided via mobile or handheld maps, which can be found at the LGBTQ Welcome Center at 368 Commercial Street.
Friday night will see both an art installation and a party, staples of any Provincetown celebration, to inaugurate the weekend. Berlin-based artist Yvette Mattern’s Global Rainbow, a massive laser installation simulating the arc of a natural rainbow and visible for over twenty miles, will shine above Commercial street Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. After the rainbow is activated, there will be an official Pride Kickoff Party at the Velvet Lounge, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Ticket proceeds are for the benefit of the Provincetown LGBTQ Welcome Center so come dance to celebrate gay pride while raising money for an institution that continues to promote the welcoming spirit of the community.
Whether you are feeling sore from a late night of dancing or just want to stretch it out before another long day, Saturday kicks off with a yoga class at Bas Relief Park at 10 a.m. The event is led by Outermost Yoga but you will need to bring your own mat and $20 for a donation to support the LGBTQ Welcome Center. The Welcome Center will then host an hour-long Q&A interview with Stonewall veterans Mark Segal and David Velasco Bermudez at the Pilgrim House beginning at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20. Next, “Sashay to Tea,” is an unofficial flamboyant stroll led by the drag queens of Provincetown from the LGBTQ Welcome Center to Boatslip’s Tea Dance. Strut your stuff then show off your dance moves at Tea Dance from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring a packed dance floor with music from DJ Mary Alice and an expansive view of the Provincetown’s West End Harbor. Two more dance parties close out the night. The first will feature a special performer (TBA) at The Club (formerly the Pied) from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Afterwards, head over to A-House from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. for one final dance party to finish out another wonderful day of Pride.
Sunday morning repeats the, at this point, probably much-needed yoga class at 10 a.m. at the Bas Relief Park. Sunday is also the last day to enjoy the Stonewall Stroll. At 3 p.m., author Russ Lopez will spend an hour discussing his new book, “The Hub of the Gay Universe - An LGBTQ History of Boston, Provincetown, and Beyond”. This event is complimentary, as are the refreshments. The final festivity of the weekend is the Underwear Party at The Purgatory Club from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. This is your last chance to celebrate your gay pride and show off your underwear-and-dance-moves combination you’ve been practicing in the mirror all winter long. The Global Rainbow will be active until 2 a.m.
