Chattahoochee Working Group Seeks Community Input for Vision of River’s Future: Public Meetings Planned June 22 in Atlanta and June 23 in Johns Creek
ATLANTA (PRWEB) June 08, 2019 -- The Chattahoochee Working Group is hosting public forums on June 22 in Atlanta and June 23 in Johns Creek to gather community input for the Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study. The study aims to reconsider the region's relationship to the river and create a new vision for the river's future. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in these free input sessions.
Commissioned by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), The Trust for Public Land, city of Atlanta, and Cobb County, the study focuses on a 100-mile stretch of the river from Buford Dam to Chattahoochee Bend State Park. The study will outline new investments needed to increase public access to the river, including bicycle and pedestrian usage.
During the public forums, participants will have the opportunity to meet the study design team and voice their priorities and concerns about the river corridor.
“We’re eager to talk to residents and learn about their vision for the river’s future,” said Byron Rushing, ARC’s Bicycling and Walking Program Manager. “The Chattahoochee River is one of our region’s natural treasures, but in many areas access remains limited. This study presents an enormous opportunity to change that. But our efforts won’t be successful without significant input from the public.”
The 18-month long study began in October and is being led by SCAPE, a New York-based landscape architecture and urban design studio. SCAPE is a nationally renowned firm with an emphasis on creating positive change in communities through the creation of regenerative living infrastructure and new forms of public spaces.
“In Georgia, The Trust for Public Land’s work to preserve and activate the Chattahoochee River is a key priority,” said Walt Ray, Director of Chattahoochee River Program for The Trust for Public Land. “The Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study presents the largest, most comprehensive effort to reimagine the role the Chattahoochee River plays in our region.”
