Chicago CEO Takes Reins as Chair of National Industry Organization
Roscoe Company's Jim Buik to Champion Sustainability, Technology and the Future of the Family Business
CHICAGO, Nov. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Jim Buik, CEO of the Roscoe Company in Chicago, a third-generation, family-owned provider of work uniforms, has been installed as the 64th chairman of the Textile Rental Service Association (TRSA) the national trade organization of the linen, uniform and facility services industry.
Buik has promised to bring the same focus on quality control, environmental sustainability and new technology that has characterized his tenure as CEO to the job of leading the industry's efforts.
Buik: Continuous Improvement and Quality Control Practices Are Key to Industry Success
He has pledged to broaden the organization's educational efforts and promote the concept of "continuous improvement," encouraging more members to work toward certifications like the TRSA's "Clean Green" designation for companies that demonstrate sound environmental practices.
Buik advocates for the adoption of strict quality control practices and independent assessments like ISO 9001:2015 certification and "Hygienically Clean" earned by companies like Roscoe that follow strict industry practices to produce clean textiles in Healthcare & Food Manufacturing, verified through outside laboratory testing.
Buik credits the level of discipline required to maintain such standards with Roscoe's success in an industry that has faced increasing consolidation under a handful of giant national companies.
Environmental Responsibility, Family Business Strategies and Technology Among Buik's Priorities
Promoting environmental sustainability will be a priority of Buik's two-year term as TRSA chair. "Our customers care more about sustainability than they ever did before. When I used to conduct tours 10 to 15 years ago with prospects and customers, and talk about sustainability, I typically received glancing interest. Now, they want to get up there and see how the chemistry is reacting," Buik said. "They want to understand what it means to recycle hangers and what it means to cut millions of gallons of water a year out of your process, but still produce incredibly clean textiles."
Paving the Way for a New Generation of Leadership
Succession planning and recruiting the next generation of leaders are also on Buik's agenda, reflecting both his long involvement with Chicago-area family business councils and consultants, as well as his efforts in bringing a fourth-generation of Buik family members into leadership at Roscoe.
Buik, who oversaw the installation of the world's most advanced sorting technology at Roscoe last year, would also like to promote a greater focus on industry-wide technological advances.
