Chicago Conference Questions Censorship of Vaccine Discussion

With the official hysteria about “measles,” public officials have advocated censorship of legitimate information about vaccination. Because officials do not agree with vaccine safety advocates’ well-sourced information, politicians have irresponsibly denounced citizens as “liars,” in derogation of the First Amendment. In the name of public safety, political leaders have rushed to limit the Constitutional freedoms of American families. Parents’ honest search for answers to their questions about vaccine safety has been met with an intemperate rebuke by some politicians.
Mr. Krakow states: “Social media is the platform for most public discussion of controversial issues. Public officials have increasingly called for censorship of messages that they find inconvenient. While private companies like Google and Facebook have not yet been found accountable to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, public officials who call for censorship can be held responsible for illegally curbing free speech. Recently, at least one U.S. Congressman has called for censorship of vaccine safety messaging on social media. In an irresponsible escalation of the assault on free speech, the Mayor of New York City, in the midst of his campaign to force vaccination, is seriously considering criminal prosecution of people who post what he considers ‘misinformation’ about vaccines. This presentation will discuss the implications of these troubling developments for American Democracy.”
Robert J. Krakow is a veteran attorney in private practice in New York City. In the 1980s, Mr. Krakow was a New York County prosecutor and Narcotics Bureau Chief. He is an accomplished trial lawyer in civil and criminal matters Federal and State Courts. Among other practice areas, Mr. Krakow specializes in prosecuting vaccine injury cases. Krakow is the attorney for five families in the recent forced MMR vaccination case in New York City.
