PROVIDENCE, R.I., April 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick Ltd. has awarded its 2019 Child of an American Veteran Scholarship to Ally Niven, 18, of Dunbar, Wis., a nursing student at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wisconsin. Niven's winning essay was about how her career choices were informed by her experience as the daughter of a veteran. Her father, Lee Niven, a retired Army Captain served for 18 years.

The firm awards its annual $1500 Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick Child of an American Veteran Scholarship to any child of a veteran who is enrolled in an accredited U.S. university or college. Niven was 8 when her father had a stroke. "Our family's world was thrown upside down," she wrote. He recovered and was soon deployed to Iraq with Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lee Niven returned with PTSD.
Niven credits the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs with helping her family recover and thrive. Niven would like to work with veterans as a before pursuing a doctorate's degree in nursing.
