The Smashtech Story
Smashtech started in a 600 square foot office, with just the 2 brothers and co-founders, Omar Imani and Anwar Husain. They started their first business with $100, and they grew from there to what is today one of the fastest growing companies in San Diego. In 2016, Smashtech moved to their 3,000 square foot office, with 15 employees, thinking the space would sustain their growth for years. Not even a year after their move, they realized they would need a much bigger space to support their explosive growth.
From 2016 to 2017, the company achieved over 16,000% YoY growth. And 2018 is proving to be an even bigger year, as they move into their new 22,000 square foot custom built modern, hotel-inspired office. This unmatched growth is even more impressive given the fact that the company has been fully self-funded the entire way.
Today, Smashtech is settling into its new home and preparing for continued exponential growth. The new office sits on the 33rd floor of Symphony Towers in downtown San Diego, and it boasts 360 degree views of the ocean, bay, skyline and Balboa Park with its floor to ceiling windows. It's the highest and one of the largest offices in the city.
Smashtech's unstoppable growth is largely due to Anwar and Omar's strategic direction for the company and the different programs they put in place to ensure people are aligned with their vision.
The most challenging decision they made was to make Smashtech a vertically-integrated company. They've collapsed inefficient legacy supply chains by cutting out intermediate layers, middleman, and having direct relationships with suppliers. This allowed them to quickly iterate on product design and demand. Having all departments from customer service, marketing, development, R&D, sales, media, etc. all in-house also meant they would have total control over the entire customer experience, which means they can provide the best product, the best experience, and great value for their consumers.
The most impressive part of the company's growth is how they managed to foster an award-winning culture as they continue to scale by following a "people first" approach. Since their first year, the company believed in hiring the right people and ensuring they are in the right seats.
