Cisco Refresh Partner Expands its Circular IT Offering

Over the course of that decade, global awareness of the issue of e-waste (electronic waste) has been on the rise, and Cistor have been at the forefront of attempts to tackle this problem by persuading businesses to utilise reusable technology and extend the working life of existing technology. Tackling E-waste
The issue of e-waste is real, global and growing. Factors such as scheduled product obsolescence and purchasing patterns which unthinkingly prioritise new product result in 53.6 metric tonnes of e-waste finding its way into global landfill every year. Looked at another way, this is a staggering 7.3kg per capita (source Global E-waste Monitor 2020). Even more disturbing than the sheer scale of e-waste is the fact that the material in question retains value, particularly when a shift in perception enables the items to be regarded as resources to be remanufactured rather than waste product.
Recycling is often regarded as the answer to e-waste, but it is a partial solution at best. The Cistor approach is to maximise the life cycle of IT equipment so that recycling shifts from being the inevitable end point to representing an occasional last resort. As things stand, only an estimated 20% of e-waste is recycled, and for Cistor this reinforces the need to shift the mind-set on the reuse of technology.
