Common App Announces University of Maryland, Baltimore County President Freeman Hrabwoski as Keynote Speaker for 2019 Member Summit
Dr. Hrabowski will speak about his experience in leading his institution and how higher education institutions can help lower barriers to college access and success.
ARLINGTON, Va., April 29, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today the Common Application, the nonprofit member organization committed to the pursuit of access, equity, and integrity in the college admission process, announced that Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County will headline Common App's Member Summit this year as a keynote speaker. Dr. Hrabowski will speak about his experience in leading his institution and how higher education institutions can help lower barriers to college access and success.
A national thought leader on STEM education, access, and achievement, Dr. Hrabowski was appointed chair of the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans by President Barack Obama and was named one of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world in 2012. Since being named President in 1992, he has helped to establish UMBC as a national leader in academic innovation and undergraduate teaching.

The Common App Member Summit, to be held this year from May 6-8 in Arlington, Virginia, brings together hundreds of enrollment leaders and admissions professionals from the more than 800 colleges and universities worldwide that make up the Common App Membership. Members share best practices, network, and learn from experts at the Common App on how to expand access and connect students to financial aid, scholarship and counseling resources that will help prospective applicants. Through a pre-conference workshop with Arizona State University and a session on the Common App's new union with Reach Higher, members will have the opportunity to discuss ways to tackle the systemic and societal barriers that prevent students from considering postsecondary education.
