Contempor'ati Opens "Inspired by Nature" in San Francisco
"Inspired by Nature: Featuring Works by Ansel Adams and Hou Beiren" Opens at the Pacific Heritage Museum, San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Contempor'ati today announced its exhibition "Inspired by Nature: Featuring Works by Ansel Adams and Hou Beiren". The exhibition opens today in conjunction with Asia Week San Francisco at the Pacific Heritage Museum and runs through March 30, 2019.
Ansel Adams is America's most influential and beloved landscape photographer who influenced the environmental policy of several American Presidents. At 102 years old, California-based Hou Beiren is widely recognized for his innovations to traditional Chinese literati paintings through the use of his "wild calligraphic" brush strokes, "splash color ink" and use of white ink pigments.
"Ansel Adams and Hou Beiren represent the best of American and Chinese art," said Mark Barnekow, co-founder of Contempor'ati and Executive Producer of the exhibition. "When these artists met, they shared their true passion and inspiration for nature, especially Yosemite National Park."
Exhibition curator and co-founder of Contempor'ati, Jean Song continued, "It's remarkable how many of Adams' photographs of natural landscapes have the feeling of a Chinese painting, a tradition which began in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). These artists are clearly masters of their respective art forms."
The exhibition features photographic and painted works of art by Ansel Adams and Hou Beiren generously on loan from the museum at Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding, California, NanHai Art Museum in Millbrae, California and private collections. The exhibition is also supported by The Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona.
Publishing rights for Adams' photographs are managed by the trustees of The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust
