EpigeneticsRx's San Diego County genomic study to reduce post-traumatic stress, suicidal ideation, and depression in combat veterans shows promising outcomes
The results of the program demonstrated promising results and a strong foundation for further research. All 20 areas of the survey demonstrated improvement within the participants that completed the intake and program exit questionnaires. One of the more notable findings was the significant improvement found in veterans experiencing acute symptoms.
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 6, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- County of San Diego Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, a Marine Corps. combat veteran, supported the effort with a $60,000 Neighborhood Reinvestment Program grant from the County.
Genetic testing allowed providers to leverage genomic science to personalize targeted treatment plans for each veteran. Pre and post testing were completed to evaluate the effectiveness of the personalized interventions. There were several participants that started the program with acute symptoms (scoring 1-3) in depression, anxiety, resilience, stress, feelings of overwhelm and overall quality of life. These participants ended the program with improvements of 100% to 600%.

The strong rate of reported improvement (100% to 600%) with participants that expressed starting with acute symptoms and in most need of support, provide the foundation for justifying further research be conducted to scale solutions to the veteran community to prevent and address homelessness, suicide, and addiction.
This program leveraged EpigeneticsRx's years of research in functional genomics and provided veterans non-pharmaceutical, non-opioid, non-addicting, treatment solutions that are specifically tailored to each veteran's genetic profile. The study enrolled 30 veterans that received genetic testing, personalized lifestyle coaching, nutritional-based treatment solutions, microcurrent neurofeedback and ongoing genomic counseling.
San Diego-based Cammies & Canines, NeuroGen and EpigeneticsRx conducted the research to help veterans who are struggling with post-traumatic stress by implementing a program that personalizes a nutritional-based treatment protocol directed by a medical-grade genetic test. Only medical-grade nutritional supplements were used for the protocols. Medical students from Bastyr University provided the ongoing health coaching that was supervised by a collaborative panel of San Diego-based Physicians and medical professionals. The protocol was enhanced with microcurrent neuro feedback sessions provided by NeuroGen. The research tapped into San Diego County's strength in genomics, the presence of the country's largest number of post-9/11 veterans, and some of the nation's most respected functional medicine physicians.
