Ex-NBA Star Ty Lawson Sued by Los Angeles Firm, the Downtown L.A. Law Group
A woman alleges that Lawson violently beat her during an excursion one night in Los Angeles in May.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Downtown L.A. Law Group, a personal injury law firm, has filed a lawsuit against ex-NBA star Tywon Lawson, currently playing on the Shandong Golden Stars in the Chinese Basketball League, on behalf of Jonae Keyes. Lawson was allegedly in the rear of a car being driven by Keyes when he purportedly began to argue with a passenger; Keyes alleges that Lawson eventually physically attacked her, allegedly hitting her repeatedly in the incident.
The lawsuit is being handled by Farid Yaghoubtil of DTLA Law Group, who will seek various forms of compensation from Lawson.
The Alleged Incident
The claim against Lawson arose from the alleged incident that occurred on May 5, 2019 when the claimant was allegedly giving Lawson and her friend (who were allegedly both intoxicated) a ride to a club. In the backseat, Lawson and Keyes' friend apparently began arguing – the verbal argument then purportedly turned physical. According to the allegations, Keyes attempted to intervene; however, Lawson responded with violence. He allegedly grabbed her, choked her, and punched her in the head. Keyes alleges that she did not fight back during the incident.
Keyes is Seeking Legal Action and Compensation
According to court documents for Jonae Keyes v. Tywon Ronell Lawson, Keyes suffered physical and psychological harm, both for which she is seeking to recover monetary compensation. Personal injury attorney Farid Yaghoubtil, who has represented countless victims and recovered millions of dollars in compensation, has filed a lawsuit against Lawson and aims to hold Lawson accountable for his alleged actions against Keyes. The case (#19STCV33493), filed with the Superior Court of California County of Los Angeles – Central District, seeks to hold Lawson accountable for the following:
- Assault
- Battery
- Intentional infliction of emotional distress
- Negligent infliction of emotional distress
The amount of compensation that Keyes and her lawyers are seeking is undisclosed (Jonae Keyes v. Tywon Ronell Lawson).
