Executive Director of Vi at Bentley Village Honored With 2019 Argentum Senior Living Community Leadership Award
Executive Director Penny Smith receives national award recognizing individuals in senior living who demonstrate the highest levels of excellence, care and dedication
CHICAGO, April 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Vi, an award-winning national developer, owner and manager of high-end retirement communities across the United States, is pleased to announce that Penny Smith, Executive Director of Vi at Bentley Village in Naples, Florida, is the recipient of the 2019 Argentum Senior Living Community Leadership Award. Each year, Argentum, the nation's largest senior living association, honors an individual who serves as an exemplary leader in a senior living community at the annual Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference.
"Penny truly embodies what it means to be a leader and is beyond deserving of this award," said Randy Richardson, President at Vi. "In her 26 years with Vi, Penny's dedication to providing exceptional service and quality care for our residents has not only significantly impacted our Bentley Village community, but also our company as a whole. We are proud to celebrate her commitment to excellence."
As the Executive Director of Vi at Bentley Village, Smith oversees the day-to-day operations, including managing staff, cultivating resident and family relationships, as well as budget adherence and regulatory compliance. She also oversaw the community's $80 million renovation in 2016, which included a new welcome center, two clubhouses and 72 new independent living apartments. In 2018, under Smith's leadership, Vi at Bentley Village was recognized by Gulfshore Magazine as "best senior living community" for the second year in a row, and Great Place to Work and Fortune honored Vi Senior Living as one of the 2018 Best Workplaces for Aging Services.
In 2017, Hurricane Irma significantly impacted Vi at Bentley Village. Smith and her team evacuated the community's nearly 600 residents, finding alternative housing for each resident while working tirelessly to ensure all necessary repairs were completed. Despite the tremendous challenges that came with the evacuation and recovery efforts, Vi at Bentley Village grew occupancy to nearly 95 percent in 2018.
"I am honored to be recognized as this year's Argentum Community Leadership winner, and am fortunate to be backed by a terrific leadership team and staff who have made this possible," said Penny Smith, Executive Director, Vi at Bentley Village. "During my time with Vi, I've had the opportunity to provide homes at our communities for many remarkable residents who inspire me to continually strive to uphold the level of excellence for which we are known."
Smith has worked in the senior living industry for nearly three decades and has been with Vi since 1992. Prior to becoming the Executive Director at Vi at Bentley Village, she held the Executive Director position at Vi at Lakeside Village in Lantana, and at Vi's Boca Raton community.
This year's winners were honored at the 2019 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference in San Antonio, Texas, on April 16.
