FCC Holding Ukraine Fundraising Day on Wednesday, March 9
Day will start off with moment of silence at 9 a.m.
FREDERICK, Md., March 4, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Frederick Community College will hold a Ukraine Fundraising Day on Wednesday, March 9 to support relief efforts for Ukrainians directly impacted by the current Russian invasion. The day will also include an opportunity for the College community to come together for a moment of silence.
"As we witness the unjust invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, Frederick Community College stands in solidary and support of Ukraine and its people," said Dr. Thomas Powell, FCC interim president. "Many of us will pray that Ukrainian people will be safe and that this war ends soon. Thoughts and prayers are good, but they are not enough – as a College we are called to act. We cannot let the people of Ukraine face this alone."
The Ukraine Fundraising Day will start off with a community gathering and moment of silence at 9 a.m. in the quad on the main campus (located between the front of the Athletics Center and the back of Linganore Hall).
Throughout the day, all members of the College community are encouraged to participate in the fundraising efforts if they are financially able to do so. Another way to show support that day is to dress in blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian national flag.
All funds raised on March 9 will be managed by the FCC Foundation and divided equally between two organizations providing direct support to Ukrainians impacted by this war: Direct Relief and Save the Children. More information on these organizations is available below.
Donations can be made online or with cash or check:
- A link to donate online through the FCC Foundation will be emailed to all FCC students and employees on the morning of March 9 and will be posted on http://www.frederick.edu.
- Donation boxes will be available in the FCC Center for Student Engagement (Student Center, H-101) and in the FCC Foundation Office (Annapolis Hall, A-200A) for those who would like to donate in cash.
- Checks should be made out to the FCC Foundation and should include "Ukraine" in the memo line. Checks can be dropped off at the FCC Foundation Office.
FCC students and employees are encouraged to share information about the FCC Ukraine Fundraising Day to family members and friends to maximize the impact of this effort.
Both Direct Relief and Save the Children received top ratings on Charity Navigator, a well-known independent nonprofit evaluator.
Direct Relief is working directly with Ukraine's Ministry of Health and other partners in the region to provide requested medical aid, from oxygen concentrators to critical care medicines – while preparing to offer longer-term medical aid to people displaced or affected by the conflict.
Direct Relief received a score of 100/100 on Charity Navigator.
Save the Children's Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund provides children and families with immediate aid, such as food, water, hygiene kits, psychosocial support, and cash assistance.
Save the Children received a score of 91.82/100 on Charity Navigator.
